PC hardware · Operating systems · Networking

Computer hardware and IT operations

AIM: To introduce the student to computer hardware and software, as well as operating systems, networking concepts, mobile devices, IT security, and troubleshooting

This class covers the fundamentals of computer software, hardware and cybersecurity. So far we have learnt briefly how to disassemble and reassemble a PC as well as how to put together an ethernet cable and even how to install Windows on a computer.

Python · Program design · Problem solving

Python programming

AIM: To apply the principles of software development to create simple working applications and use problem-solving and decision-making techniques to provide innovative and timely Information Technology outcomes

This is where I learn about Python and how to use it to create programs for everyday use, as well as the different components involved. We have explored graphics with Turtle and used tools such as booleans and variables to build functions for tasks like calculating the circumference of a circle and working out how much a food bill will cost after a tip is added.

UX and interface design · Accessible digital media

Digital media and web design

AIM: To apply concepts of business analysis, user experience and interface design to create accessible interactive digital media.

This module covers the basic knowledge and fundamentals of web design and digital media. We have been learning about tools such as HTML and CSS, which are used to build websites like this one. HTML acts as the structure of a website, while CSS adds the styling that makes it look polished and professional. This class helps me better understand how to create websites, which is the type of work I hope to do for a career.

Business systems · Data modelling · Development life cycles

Data analysis

AIM: To apply the fundamentals of information system concepts and practice including business concepts, development life cycles, data modelling and administration that supports and enhances organisational processes and systems.

In this module, I develop an understanding of data modelling and information systems and how they are used. It also explains how IT is incorporated to support and enhance everyday businesses as part of their processes and systems.
